Dinner With the Family

[Takes place in the evening after Harry and Caeline meet Gwyn and Gwyn checks out Jared.]

Christian stirred the sauce again and turned it down to simmer. He was panicked, he'd willingly admit that to anyone who cared to ask, but he figured him being panicked was infinitely better than Johnny being panicked, so he'd deal. His lover was due home any second and within minutes his sister should be arriving for dinner, so the odds of Johnny having enough time to recover from his shock and try and pull a "Harry and Anna" were small to insignificant. Caeline, unfortunately, wouldn't be there, much to Christian's dismay. He'd gotten hold of her too late and she'd already made plans, which was not good; he could have used her as a buffer. Oh, well, never mind, he'd manage. Somehow. The front door opened and he wiped his hands on a towel and padded out into the living area in jeans, T-shirt and bare feet to meet his lover. Maybe the casual clothes would help set the tone, help calm any nerves? He could only hope.

It was wonderful chapter! Johnny was so sweet and lovely! I believe Christian doesn't care about Johnny's past being pleasure slave that is why Gwyn doesn't have to worry about Johnny's suitability for her brother as well. Christian and Johnny is so for each other:-)

Can't wait for Christian's babies and Johnny's nursing experience, lol. Bet when kids will grow a little they will love Johnny to death!:-)

Well, there's suitable and then there's "suitable." Gwyn was raised to believe that propriety and social correctness are of paramount importance for the upper classes, and in her eyes Johnny will never be suitable. It's not just a matter of how well he and Christian get along or how much they love each other; she's like the starchy old dowager duchess in a historical romance who doesn't care how nice a person the heroine is, how sweet or how much in love with her the dowager's grandson is. A poor parson's daughter can never be a suitable match for a Duke and that's all there is to it. Gwyn likes Johnny as a person, but because of his background he's not a socially suitable match for the Crown Prince and to Gwyn that's what's important. Gwyn's standards are extremely high for royal spouses -- birth, background and behavior all have to be above reproach. One has to wonder where she ever found her own husband, with standards like that. [sigh]

And yeah, Johnny's definitely looking forward to babysitting. :D I imagine some of the enthusiasm will wear off once the reality of 2am feedings and colic and diaper rash and teething sets in, but for now he thinks it's going to be incredibly cool and fun. [grin]

I remember as Christian said about Gwyn that she is a snob, but sometimes she can show her lovely nature:-)

I am certainly looking forward for Christian's babies and Johnny's help, it will be a lot of fun to read about it:-)

I just secretly have to admit that I don't like Callan's seduction of Christian at all. Callan scares me a lot.

I certainly do hope that you guys will continue to play Palace!
