Cavalcade: Part One.

"That's it, keep your feet in there and hang on to the pommel nice and tight." Will circled the pony around the flags one last time and headed back. Read more... )

"Uh-huh." Will was about to add something smart about a gallop or two, but he noticed that Stephen had become distracted, watching a slim, dark-haired young man scurry across the foyer in front of them and disappear into the East corridor. "Friend of yours?" he asked.

Will knocked on the Shack door like the nice, polite lad that he was. Not. Then he shoved it open and stepped inside, meeting Christian halfway down the hall on his way to answer the summons. "Evenin' pardner," Will said with a laconic nod, head down.

Christian opened his arms wide. "Pappa!" He looked Will up and down. "They fit!" He grinned, admiring the leather trousers he and Johnny had given Will for his birthday as a match for that disgusting jacket of his. "Oh boy do they fit. Come on in."

While Marton may have received all his presents, he has something special in mind to make his birthday, and Will's, perfect.

“So what’s it like?” Christian looked over at his father who was leaning on his desk reading the status report on Esea.

“I just need at least one authority figure in my life, okay? Someone I can look up to and respect and admire . . . And men like that are hard to find.”

The hallway was pretty busy but mostly with folk coming off the lifts and heading in the opposite direction from Will. It meant he had to step aside, stop, push through and wait a bit, but he didn't mind. Not like he was in any hurry, anyway. He strolled along toward the lifts with his hands in his pockets and a cheerful smile on his face. Another lazy morning, spent stirring his coffee on the Coffee Shoppe patio was over and it really was about time he thought about going back to work. But not today; today was for doing nothing.

Marton looked over, startled and then began to chuckle. "We're boring the pleb." he confided to Johnny in a loud, carrying voice. "We'd better stop I suppose before his wittle bwain explodes."

"The wittle pleb's bwain exploded about five clicks back." Christian muttered to himself, urging his horse forward. He could see the top of the crest ahead and that meant the lake wasn't far away. He needed a swim if no one else did!

A silence descended but it was one into which Will could not relax. He grew edgy, waiting for Liam to speak, to bring it up, and then even more so when the other man remained quiet and he realized that he wasn't going to mention it. In the end, Will decided in the interests of harmony, to take the bit between his teeth and get it over with. "So?" he said, stretching out the tension. "You want me to talk about me not wanting you and me to talk?"

Johnny waved through the window at Stan, the guy on the gate, before remembering that the glass was tinted black from the outside. He blushed and slumped down in his seat, hoping Christian hadn't noticed, but unfortunately Christian's attention had been firmly on him for the last hour. Usually he thought that was wonderful, but his lover's twinkling eyes just made him blush harder. At least Lawrence and Jet were up front with the driver, and Obie didn't care.

Private Journal Entry.

Finally looks like I can stop writing in this thing for a while. Which is timely because I’ve run out of filler. Can only transcribe my laundry receipt so many times fore I start dreaming of starch, no?

That evening, following this.

The living room was cosy and dark as Christian snuggled against Johnny and the movie played. Just the light from the vid and the flames from the small fire in the grate were sufficient for a quiet night at home canoodling on the couch, he figured, the tensions of the last week and a half now fully gone as his father had returned the previous night and he, Christian, was off the hook.
