Michael gave his hair a quick brush, promised his stomach something to eat later, and decided it was time to go. The sun was almost up -- he stifled a groan at that thought -- and first shift security should be outside already. They'd be letting in the people working set-up and Michael and Jon needed to be down there to make sure everything went together smoothly. "Into the breach," he muttered to himself, and headed out the door.

Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Jon stared at himself in the bathroom mirror, watching it mist over as he exhaled and wiping it away with his sleeve. Okay young feller, he told himself. You can do this. Everything is organized all you have to do is supervise! Yeah, right, the devil in his head was quick to respond. And fix mistakes and find the lost, mend the broken, comfort, cajole and communicate with people. Afraid he was going to start hyperventilating if he thought about it any more, Jon girded his loins, picked up his pens, sheets and folders-stuffed haversack and, with one last look at the scared young man in the mirror, headed out to begin managing his first Carnival.

"Uh-huh." Will was about to add something smart about a gallop or two, but he noticed that Stephen had become distracted, watching a slim, dark-haired young man scurry across the foyer in front of them and disappear into the East corridor. "Friend of yours?" he asked.

"Yes, yes. So," Mr. Lawless nodded enthusiastically. "You see why I'm here."

Jon shook his head. "Sorry."

Michael glanced at the clock and started wrapping up the training section of the monthly report. He was almost done anyway and could use a break before going on to budgets. He suppressed a shudder and closed the file.

After getting a call from His Majesty, he'd set up an appointment with Jon to discuss the carnival. He thought it was a great idea; they hadn't had a carnival in far too long. It was fun, great publicity, and the cause was certainly worthy.

It was a beautiful day, Jon thought. The breeze from the bay was nice, not too strong, just playful, stirring the napkins on the tables and flipping the edges of people's magazines as they sat on the patio, drinking coffee and indulging in early lunches or late breakfasts. So his smile was firmly in place as he went from table to table, collecting donations for the church fund. Once he reached the doors, he was back at his table and he sat down to drink his iced chocolate, content to wait a little while for the guests to turnover before making another run along the patio.

The Plot Thickens. New

V-day finally arrives.

Jon wiped his hands down the front of his trousers again and checked the room over again. The butterflies in his stomach were the size of small trucks and that seemed due, in no small measure, to the fact that this day's event's involved two-fold planning. Guy and Jude would be here soon and Jon was understandably nervous.

Jon was in no particular hurry to be anywhere. Classes were done for the day and he was heading back to his room but taking his time about it and enjoying the stroll. He turned into the corridor that would lead him to West access and spotted a familiar blond head not too far in front of him. With a growing smile, he picked up his pace and called out, "Jude! Jude! Wait up!"

Guy's breath caught as he felt Jon's Talent hit him, eyes instantly focusing in on his full soft...oh hell

"Oh hell," he moaned, giving his head a shake to clear it. "You've got one hell of a weapon there, mate. Good thing you've got a handle on it."

"That," Jon pointed an accusing finger. "does not look like fun!" He tipped his head to one side, following the sway of the fabric as Guy swung it around on his little finger. "It has no back! And why is it spotty?" he wanted to know.
