OOC: Takes place sometime after John's first mail but still before his second

Walking briskly with a pie safely stowed, Mum waves to a few acquaintances in the halls on her way to her next friend. Reaching the door, she knocks happily waiting for Miranda to open. Alright then, let's see ---Liv, Libertine, Talent, Trent, oh and Parker - check

Miranda is just checking the temperature of the tea water as she hears the knock on the door. When she goes to open, a huge smile spreads on her face. "Mum! Now that is a surprise, come on in!" She eyes the container in Mum's hands with a happy gleam. "Oh, what do I see, is it really that time of the year again? Don't tell me that's some of your famous apple pie." She steps aside to let Mum enter. "Come on in, I was just about to make some tea. Would you like some too?"

"Miranda, darling! That is the best offer I've had all day. I'm positively parched." Stepping in, Mum gives Miranda a big hug. "I'm so excited to see your new room. You'll have to give me the quick tour. And yes, pie of course. You won't believe how many we made this year."

"Well, your pie is famous and loved by everyone," Miranda laughs and takes the container from Mum to bring it into the kitchen. "Of course I'll give you a quick tour," she says as she steps out again. "Though - I must admit I am hardly here any more, you were lucky to find me here." Blushing, Miranda clears her throat. "Now, come on, let me show you everything."

Ears perking up, Mum doesn't immediately pounce on that lead. Softly murmuring as she admires Miranda's choice of decoration, she waits until they are close to finishing the tour. "So, how is Liv's room decorated? I would think she could use your advice there, you are so talented at making these rooms so homey."

Nearly stumbling at Mum's question as they enter the kitchen, Miranda blushes once more and glares at the other woman. "Mum!" she nearly cries indignantly and starts fidgeting with the water. It has the perfect temperature now, so Miranda pours it into the tea pot. "It's beautiful," Miranda finally says, knowing Mum will not let her off the hook. "There was no need to change anything about the room. Well, I did add some plants, and some pictures for the walls, but nothing else, really. Liv has a great taste, you know. Shall we have some of your pie with the tea, or are you sick of it already? I still have some of those chocolate cookies I always make around here somewhere." She puts the tea pot and two mugs on a tray to carry into the sitting room.

Pretending to be innocent while managing a big grin and quick wink on the side, Mum sighs at the sight of the tea brewing. "Chocolate? Oh my dear, you know how much I adore chocolate! Did I tell you what Harry sent me in one of the Palace gift baskets a few weeks ago? That edible chocolate body paint!" She grins at Miranda's expression. "I know, outrageous and so Harry, especially since he detests chocolate himself!" Settling comfortably in a chair, Mum smiles happily. "Miranda, luv, you know I'm so excited for you and Liv. I have to tease you just a bit on that pet!"

Once again, Miranda blushes madly at the comment on edible body paint and quickly gets up to fetch the chocolate cookies, though more to regain her countenance. After putting them on a plate, Miranda returns to the parlour, settling down on the couch and drawing her legs up. "Thank you Mum. We are very happy, you know. Of course, you already teased me about Liv when we had just met. Back then, I didn't want to believe you, bot now..." She trails off and smiles shyly. "I would have never dared to dream of all this, Mum."

Reaching over to pat Miranda's leg, Mum smiles sweetly. "Isn't it wonderful when dreams come true? When my business finally took off, I just found myself pinching hard every so often just to make sure I hadn't imagined it all. Can you believe I just added 3 more associates to our housecleaning company? Seems like yesterday that I left here." Reaching over to grab a cookie to nibble, Mum smiles over again. "Tell me all about your training! How is it going?"

Miranda smiles and relaxes more into her seat. "It's going well. I'm progressing alright. Of course, I don't need to take all classes - I've had some of them before when I joined Reception, so I can focus on my favourites. I quite love dance, and well, the sexual basics," she admits with another soft blush but also with a big smile on her face, "Especially practising with Liv."

Mum can't hold back a delighted laugh at the last comment. She signals yes for milk as Miranda pours their tea. Sipping then giving a delighted sigh, Mum smiles again over her cup. "And with Sean I hear?"

Not too surprised Mum knows that Sean has administered her level placement test, she nods and takes one of the cookies. "Yes, with Sean too. Though only one time. I know I will have to take another test with a man, and I must say, I quite enjoyed the time with Sean. But then, who doesn't?" she winks, relaxing into the chit-chat with Mum and getting into a "girlie" mood.

"Hmm, I think you should push for a test with Michael, Jason or Stuart. They're all quite lovely and very talented from what I've heard. Lands, can you tell I have a thing for dark haired men?" Taking another sip, Mum asks gently. "So, you think you'll be taking both men and women clients then? I think that would bring in the most financial benefit, and Liv might have some advice there. What more do you have to do to start taking clients? I have to admit, once I knew Dominic wouldn't go into the libertine business, I didn't bother to understand the training regime much."

"I would never have guessed," Miranda giggles, "But you are right. I might ask any of them. They all are level four and higher, so they are allowed to administer tests and training sessions. Thank you for that tip." Taking a sip of her tea, Miranda resumes, "Yes, I will take both male and female clients, though it's not for the money, really. It's simply because I know I will enjoy both. You know I have no debt left, daddy made sure of that. But I always wanted to go into pleasure service, I saw how much daddy enjoyed it, and somehow I knew I would too. I mean, everyone who knew him said that I am a female copy of him," Miranda says smiling nostalgically. "I will only take as many female clients as Liv will be able to cope with, though. I don't think she'll have a problem with male clients, but women might make her jealous. I have yet to train my Talent some more. I don't need and don't want to train it with Liv. I did the other day, the result was very intense, to say the least. Liv's feelings towards me are too intense to boost them," Miranda explains blushing.

Nodding as she takes in Miranda's words, Mum grins widely at the last statement. "Yes, I could indeed see that would make sense. Focus more on male clients to avoid that issue. All couples should be as open about these things to avoid them festering I should think." Mum chuckles a bit. "I have to say, I was actually floored when Dominic attached himself to a libertine. He's avoided that like mad, you know for that very same client issue. But he seems quite mad about this Trent fellow and I've been hearing good things so I'm feeling pleased overall." Frowning a bit, Mum adds. "Is there no one else to practice your talent with? You should pester Sean on that, he and the management should be helping you with that."

"I don't know Trent too well," Miranda says, "But I know he's a good guy. Don't you worry, Mum, your son is in good hands. And as much as I may be occupied with Liv, I will always keep an eye on Dommie, I promise." She nods slowly. "Actually, I could practise with you right now. I can not only boost erotic emotions like lust or sensuality," Miranda smiles, "Here, let me show you." She deflects Mum's comfort, giving it a small but noticeable boost. "I can work with it quite well in everyday situations, but I have yet do practise it more in client situations. So I guess whoever I am going to take my next test with is going to profit from it."

Feeling not only more relaxed but even more pleasantly pleased with life in general, Mum laughs and pats Miranda's leg again. "My word! I definitely am inviting you over when I bake again! That's much better than a glass of wine and a foot massage." Mum gives another grin then a shrug. "I know Dominic has friends who will look out for him. Can't help that protective instinct you know? Oh on the surface, he's had lots of close friends but not really anybody close for a long time." Mum looks over at Miranda. "And everything seems wonderful for you but...forgive me if I wrong here, but is everything fine? You seem a little tired today."

Miranda looks up at Mum, suddenly remembering John's creepy mail again. "Oh, I am fine," she says, a little too quickly, and she knows it. Still, she hesitates to spill anything of the matter to Mum. Actually, to anyone. Looking down at her hands, Miranda mumbles, "I dunno, really..."

Setting her teacup down, Mum moves over to hug Miranda close. "Ah sweetie! You know how many friends you have here. You don't have to talk to me about it, but don't be afraid to reach out and get help." Rubbing Miranda's back, Mum smiles at her. "Luv, I couldn't have survived without my Palace friends. I know better than anyone how desperate and alone you can feel at times. Don't let pride or fear keep you from involving the people who care about you. Let them help you, pet. You're never taking advantage if you do because one day they'll need your help. That's the way the world works and true friends know that."

Hiding in the embrace, Miranda blinks hard to fight back her tears. She does feel like talking about it and at the same time not at all. "I know," she manages to get out past the lump forming in her throat, "I know I'm not taking advantage. You know me, Mum, I'll always be there for my friends whenever they need my help, but... Everyone seems to have so many problems of their own at the moment, I don't want to add to their burden..." She blushes and looks up at the other woman. "I received a scary mail the other day, I'm sure it was a prank. I'm just a little edgy, that's all. I'm sure I'll be fine again soon, okay?"

"A scary mail?" Stroking Miranda's hair soothingly, Mum thinks about the only times she's ever seen the other woman upset. Dammit, please not that horrid skank! "Luv, was it from that terrible woman Angelina? Has she hurt you or poor sweet Elijah again? Oh, if I ever was face-to-face with her, I think I'd plant her a facer just for all the grief she's caused."

Miranda shakes her head. "No, not from Angelina. She's banned from Palace, and with my little Gorgeous living here now, she can't get to him. No, it's from someone else..." Miranda stops herself, but then decides to go ahead. "It's from John, mom's husband..." she says in a little voice, "Please don't tell anyone, as I said, I'm sure it was a prank, a one-time thing."

"John?! Oh, Miranda. How horrible for you, dear heart. I remember how you dreaded going to visit your mum because of that vile man. Oh, dear. Well, you just ignore him! He's a rotter and you don't let him upset you one bit!" Mum thinks a bit more as she continues to rub Miranda's back. "And if it happens again, don't be embarrassed, alert someone. Promise me, luv. He shouldn't be allowed to torment you this way."

Miranda snuggles into Mum's arms, feeling safe and content there. If she is honest with herself, her real mother stopped being her mother when she got married to John. To her, Mum is much closer. "I intend to ignore him. I have done so as much as I could all the long years he dared to call me daughter." She nods and gives the other woman a thankful smile. "Yes, I promise. I will alert someone. As you said, there's enough who would come at once if I called for help. Thank you," Miranda adds quietly.

Smiling back, Mum tsks. "No need for thanks, luv. You would've found your way without my pushing. You always do. You're stronger than you think. Now, back to more fun things! Tell me about your friend Parker? I'm hearing wonderful things about her from everyone."

"Parker?" Miranda giggles and blushes madly. "Ugh, she's an old friend, we kinda grew up together. I met her a year before daddy's death. Missy's, well, I guess you could say, interesting." She reaches for her mug and starts telling Mum all about Parker and their friendship, feeling finally completely at peace and content again.

Laughing over some of the antics of Parker or Missy as Miranda calls her, tea time continues in a better frame of mind. Mum has a chance to tell Miranda about her latest lingerie purchase before begging the other woman to style her new dress. They chatter happily over the upcoming wedding as tea continues.

*Damn, Mum! How many people did you question about Trent? I told you I'd bring him to dinner soon.*

*pets Mira* Glad she has lots of people to lean on, since we all lean on her more than she realizes.
