Date: 2004-11-11 04:05 pm (UTC)There was a long thin package wedged up against his door. Surprised and curious, Jon picked it up and carried it inside with him.
Putting his library books down on the table he took it over to the sofa and sat down, lifting the lid gingerly.
Gee now, wasn't that pretty! Stroking the soft feathers, he lifted the . . . the . . . it from it's resting place and looked at it, twirling it in his hand by the base as he smiled at the soft flutter of the feathers.
Reluctantly putting it down, he looked amongst the tissue for a card, finding the slender white rectangle buried at the bottom.
Oh! Oh! An anonymous present. Well! He'd never had. . . Jon grinned to himself, ears pink with pleasure as he read the card again.
Toy? With a capital 'T'? Surely not!
He picked up his gift again and studied it with fresh eyes.
No, no way! Now, that's just ridiculous, he told himself.
Nobody would put, would do, would . . . with feathers?
Must be a typographical error, he decided.
Allowing the soft feathers to ghost across his cheek, he sat back on the couch and put his feet up on the coffee table, thinking.
I know what it looks like, he thought. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.
He smiled, happily twirling his feather duster.
