[Takes place the day after Johnny left Balize, three days after Harry left for the funeral.]
Dr. Lee had roused everyone out of bed and herded them into the sitting room -- not the one Johnny'd spent the night in, but the second one. There was a tray of muffins and pastries on the side table, and pitchers of milk, juice, coffee and chocolate placed nearby. Johnny filled a plate and shared it with Adrian, who was curled up next to him on a sofa, still yawning. Adrian had asked for chocolate. Johnny'd just raised an eyebrow and handed the other boy a cup of half chocolate and half coffee. "Trust me," he said. "It tastes great, and you're going to need it." Adrian groused but took a sip, looking surprised and pleased by the results. Johnny grinned and sipped his own coffee.
