Backdated lunch date (last Wednesday)

Nicole left Phil's office and headed upstairs to the Royal Suites. She wanted to congratulate Craig in person, and see if he'd like to come with her to David's office to tell him how her interview had gone. She figited with the hem of her jacket while she waited on the lift doors to open. When the doors opened she stepped into the hall and went straight to Craig's door...or she supposed Craig and David's door. She grinned thinking of that, her brother was getting married! She knocked hoping Craig was home, she knew most days he was busy with mediations at the Council Hall, she hoped he wasn't today.

Craig was trying to find something interesting to read for the afternoon. The morning had flown by with several cases being resolved or cancelled, and he had an unexpected afternoon off. He had picked up, then discarded several novels when he heard the knock on the door. Glad to have any company at all to ease his boredom, he was especially happy to see his future sister-in-law. "Nicole!!!!" He wrapped his arms around her, kissing her on the cheek. "Gods, it so good to see you. Come in!" He moved aside to let her enter the room. "And," he continued with a smile, "I think I owe you a BIG thank you. Gods, I didn't think I could *be* any happier when David proposed, but, after he talked to you, he....well, he made it the most romantic evening I'd ever dreamed of, and proposed again." His eyes lit up at the memory of his two beautiful proposals and he grinned from ear to ear.

Nicole smiled at Craig's enthusiastic greeting, "It's good to see you too! So he really did make it romantic? Really?" Nicole asked getting a mock stern look on her face and placing her hands on her hips.

Craig could barely contain himself. "Oh, Nicole - he had candles and fruit and....look..." Holding out his hand, he let Nicole examine the ring David had proposed to him with. "Isn't it beautiful?" Biting his bottom lip, he smiled shyly. "Gods, Nicole. I love him so much. He means everything to me, you know?"

Nicole couldn't stop smiling at how happy Craig was, "He does some things right then," she teased, "So aren't you going to ask why I'm here?" She was positively ready to burst wanting to tell someone how well her interview had gone.

"He does *everything* right sweetie," Craig laughed. "And...shit, I'm sorry...I just get carried away when I talk about him sometimes. You know how I babble." He flushed slightly, shaking his head. "Why *are* you here anyway? You look like you can barely contain yourself. Good news, I hope?"

"Very good! David asked me to come talk to Phil about a job here at Palace. The research lab is being closed down, so I was trying to figure out what I would do. David suggested that I should come here; he said he'd like Alex and I close for a change. I decided to do it. I just came from Phil's office, she practically hired me on the spot!" Nicole said quickly her hands moving as she spoke.

"Oh, honey! Congratulations! That is so wonderful!" Craig had always adored Nicole and little Alex, and was thrilled that they'd be around more often. He grabbed her hand and twirled her around the room. "Looks like our lives are changing for the better all the way around!" He felt like everything was finally falling in place. "Hey....does David know about your interview yet? I’ve barely seen him all day, so I doubt you've had a chance to run into him either."

Nicole giggled as Craig danced her around the room. "No. I was hoping to try and catch him. Oh! I just had a brilliant idea! Why don't we go surprise him? Take him lunch?"
Craig arched his eyebrow and rubbed his hands together. "He *never* eats lunch anymore. Worries the hell outta me. So, let's just go kidnap his pretty little ass. Not give him a choice in the matter, eh?"

Nicole laughed for a second and then stopped and looked at Craig seriously, "He's not been eating lunch?"

Craig's smile faded as he stared at his fiancé’s sister. "No, he hasn't. And, Nicole....what worries me even more is that he hardly ever sleeps anymore. He works so much, and such long hours, and he just seems so stressed lately, I'm worried sick. He tells me things are ok, but I'm scared, to be honest."

Nicole frowned, "We'll fix him up sweetheart. You have a wedding to plan, you don't need worries. I'll talk to him," she said seriously. "Now come on...I'm starving!" she said grabbing Craig's hand and pulling him toward the door.

Craig felt reassured by Nicole's words. He giggled and allowed himself to be drug from the room. A nice, relaxing lunch with his fiancé and soon to be sister in law would be perfect. They stopped outside of David's office, trying to be quiet. "So, shall we knock, or just barge in?" he whispered.

"Barge always worked for me when we were kids," Nicole said giggling, "but he might have someone in there so we'd best knock." She lifted her hand and knocked and then grinned at Craig beside her.

David looked up from the file he was reading at the knock; he wasn't expecting anyone at the moment. "Come in!" he called out figuring it might be Dom bringing him yet more files.

Craig opened the door, allowing Nicole to walk in first. "Hey, sweetheart!" he smiled, trying not to giggle. "Got a minute?"

David smiled broadly and stood up, "Well if it isn't my two favorite people!" He crossed around the desk and kissed his sister on the cheek and then pulled Craig into his arms and kissed him tenderly. He was so glad to have a distraction from all the paperwork he was still catching up on. "What are you two doing here?" he asked ushering them the rest of the way into his crowded office.

Craig sighed happily as David kissed him, and wrapped his arms around his waist. "Well, two things really. The most important is that Nick has some wonderful news to share with you." He rested his head against David's shoulder and looked expectantly at Nicole.

Nicole grinned at them, they had always been adorable together. "Welllll....I just got back from my interview..." she began and David cut her off.

"You got the job!" he said smiling and hugging her, "I told you that you would."

Nicole laughed, "See Craig it's no fun having a twin they can read you too well. Yes, I got it and it looks like I'll be working with some of the students as well as in the infirmary. Teaching some of the First Aid courses." Nicole explained.

"That really is wonderful news...so you are going to move into the staff housing?" David asked smiling.

"Yes, talked to Phil about it, she is going to set it all up. Alex and I should be moved in by the end of next week," Nicole explained smiling.

Craig smiled at David, happy to see his excitement. "We'll all just be one big old happy family!" Squeezing David closer, he looked at the mess scattered around the office. "And, the second thing we're here for is to get you out of this fucking fire hazard." He held up a hand to David's protests. "No, sweetheart, not a word. You have no choice in the matter. There is NO way you can win against me *and* your sister, you know."

David opened his mouth to argue but snapped it shut. Craig was right there was no way he could win against both of them...hell even one. "So you are kidnapping me huh?"

Nicole grinned, "Yes. Doctors orders too. I've heard you haven't been sleeping or eating well. *This*," she said waving her hand a bit between the three of them, "is part of the cure."

Craig entwined his fingers with David's and linked his other arm through Nicole's. "Alrighty then. Let's go somewhere. I was thinking it was such a beautiful day; a picnic in the garden would be nice. I'll stop by and grab something and meet you two down there in a second?"

"That actually sounds really good," he said walking between the man he loved and the sister he cherished. He had been working too hard, he knew it but he wanted to prove to Sean he hadn't made a mistake, that he definitely could handle it all.

"Better than good, Davie. You NEED this, I can feel it," Nicole said confidently as they approached the lift.

-------------

Craig juggled three drinks and several bags of food as he made his way to David and Nicole. He paused, happy to see his lover smiling and relaxed for a change as he laughed with Nicole. He almost dropped a drink on Nicole's head before finally sitting everything down and sitting next to David, his hand resting softly on his knee.

"You should have asked for help," David said concerned at the way Craig looked a bit unsteady before he'd settled down next to him. He was already starting to relax, he needed this. Badly. He'd nearly forgot how good sunshine felt.

"Oh, I'm such an idiot, Craig you should have said something I'd have come with you," Nicole said frowning at all the items he'd somehow managed to bring out on his own.

"No, everything's fine. Just a bit of a klutz at times you know. " He looked sternly at David. "Now. You. Eat." He softened his voice and smiled. "Please?"

"All right, all right...eating," he said reaching into one of the bags and pulling out a sandwich. "So what are you two up to besides this?" David asked suspiciously.

Nicole looked at Craig innocently, "What do you mean? Lunch that's it...you have far too a suspicious mind, Davie," she said taking a sip of her drink.

"Honestly, love. What could I possibly be up to?" He leaned over to kiss David softly.
"Remember me? I'm all innocent and sweet, you know." He finally had the grace to look down, chuckling. "Well, sweet, anyway. SO not innocent anymore..."

Nicole began to giggle. "I don't need details, boys."

David was glad he'd just swallowed when she'd said that, "Gods, Nick!" he said blushing.

Craig joined in with Nicole's giggles, and thought how much he loved hearing David laugh. Not to mention seeing David blush, which he seemed to do quite often, much to Craig's delight.

"Actually, now that you mention being up to something with Craig," Nicole said tapping her finger to her lower lip. "Have you two decided about the engagement announcement?"

Sighing, Craig rolled his eyes. "We've both been so busy, we haven't really talked much about it. David never leaves his office, and I've started scheduling more and more cases, and...well, we just haven't gotten around to it yet." Craig ran a hand over his face. "Maybe we could just hire someone to do?" He looked over a David and smiled.

David laughed, "I thought your father was going to announce publicly but we have to finish telling your family first. You have too big a damn family, Craig. Too many people to tell."

"I know.......talk to Father about that, I had nothing to do with that." Craig shook his head. "And, we've still got to tell Anna, you know. She'll kill us if anyone else lets it slip. But, it's not like we're making a big secret out of it you know. I am wearing the most beautiful ring in the world and kissing you every chance I get...." Craig chuckled.

"You really *should* tell your sister, Craig. I'd have beaten Davie within an inch of his life if he hadn't told me right away!" Nicole scolded then smiled wickedly, "Once you do tell everyone though...an engagement party would be the perfect way to announce it publicly."

David rolled his eyes, "No...no party. Please?" He already knew by the look Nicole was giving him and the light that had lit up in Craig's eyes he was going to loose this battle. "Ok...small party?"

Craig grinned and turned to David. He leaned in and rested his forehead against the other man's, and whispered.. "I love you, you know? I know you don't want a party, but you always put me first. If you don't want to, I'm fine with it. All I care about is marrying you. I mean, it would be nice to celebrate, but I don't want to put any more stress on you. I just want you to be happy, love."

"Bite your tongue, Craig!" Nicole teased, "You are having a party!" she said wagging a finger at both of them.

"I don't think either of us have a choice, love. My sister always gets her way," David said chuckling.

Nicole looked down at her watch and then back up, "I'm going to have to go pick up Alex soon. Come here, Davie?" she said scooting across the ground a bit. "Hands please?"

Yet again David rolled his eyes. "I'm not sick, Nick. I don't need this," he protested.

Craig watched as Nicole closed in on David noting his eye roll. "Honey, what is it? You don't need what?" When David didn't reply, he looked at Nicole. "Nick? What's going on here? Is something wrong with his hands?"

Nicole grinned, "You've never told him?"

"Well he knows you're a Doctor, I've mentioned you are a Healing Empath but I've never really described it," David explained allowing Nicole to take his hands in hers. She wasn't going to let him protest his way out of this anyway.

Craig watched closely as David surrendered his hands to his sister, finally realizing that he was seeing her Gift in use for the first time. He stared at the two and tried to keep the worry from his voice. "What do you see, Nick? Is he ok? I mean, really ok?" He asked softly.

Nicole closed her hands with her brother and then closed her eyes allowing her Talent to flow through to David and back to herself. Damn him, he’s blocking! "Davie you know better than this stop blocking me."

David sighed, "Sorry, wasn't trying."

"If I can get bugger bear here to stop blocking me I'll let you know what's wrong with him, Craig," Nicole said frowning and settling in again to try and read her brother. She again closed her eyes and let her Talent surge forward this time David allowed her in. She felt the stress and worry of the last few months tumble through to her; she concentrated on withdrawing the symptoms and then allowed renewed energy to flow through to her brother. She sat back after a moment releasing his hands. "You should take better care of yourself or you are going to get run down," Nicole scolded. "He was just overly stressed is all. Taking on too much at once, I thought I noticed it at the funeral but I was a bit out of touch with everything then myself too."

Looking sternly at David, Craig scowled. "I TOLD you you needed to relax. Let me take care of you for a change. I might not have Nick's healing powers, but I sure as hell can give you a backrub or something." His smile softened. "You've gotta let me help you once in a while, ok? Like you've helped me so many times?"

David looked down at the ground for a moment and back up, "I know. I'm sorry."

"I just worry about you," Craig said quietly. "I'd die if something happened to you, you know?" He reached out to take David's hand, squeezing gently.

Nicole sat back and stood up. "Well Craig's right, you are a couple. You should let him help you, but I know how you are David you try and do everything yourself. Prove you can do everything yourself. Anyway I've got to get back. Oh gods and start packing! See you both later," she said dropping a kiss on the top of both their heads. As she started to walk away David caught her hand.

"Hey...you going to be all right?" David asked knowingly.

"Just fine, Davie. It wasn't that bad...have it out of my system by dinner. Love you," she said giving his hand a squeeze. "Bye, Craig. Call me about the engagement party I want to help plan it." Nicole made it inside the building before she leaned against the wall and put her hand to her stomach. "Gods, David how the hell were you functioning like that?" she whispered trying to compartmentalize so she could focus and purge his symptoms.

Craig moved closer to David and tilted his chin up until their eyes met.. "Are you really ok now?" he asked softly.

David smiled at his lover. "Yes, more than ok. You know how it feels after a nice long hot shower when you've been stressed? I feel like that now. Nick has healed me more than once. Never had a cold as a kid, she always got rid of them as soon as they started. Handy thing to have but never had an excuse to skip school," David grinned.

Craig laughed, pleased to see the familiar glint in David's eyes as he smiled. He moved to sit behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and resting his head on David's shoulder. "Just sit here for a minute, love. Just relax with me and enjoy the sunshine. And let me hold you for a while, ok?"

David closed his eyes and sank back against the man he loved, "That sounds like an excellent plan."

Awwww! I think Nicole's going to have to make a habit of checking David, like, weekly at least, or the brat's not going to make it to his own wedding. :/ Craig has to tie him down and make him eat and relax periodically.

[pause]

Or, umm, well, maybe that won't be too relaxing, but, umm, it should relieve some stress. Umm. [grin]

Shutting up, now.... :D
